Read the prompt below, and state your claim, and have one paragraph to support it. This must reach 250 words, and make sure to comment on two other posts.

In his 2004 book, Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton argues that the chief aim of humorists is not merely to entertain but “to convey with impunity messages that might be dangerous or impossible to state directly.” Because society allows humorists to say things that other people cannot or will not say, de Botton sees humorists as serving a vital function in society. Think about the implications of de Botton’s view of the role of humorists (cartoonists, stand-up comics, satirical writers, hosts of television programs, etc.). Then write a claim and paragraph that defends, challenges, or qualifies de Botton’s claim about the vital role of humorists. Use specific, appropriate evidence to develop your position.

A Conversation with Yourself

Dear 11 AP Allies,



Welcome to 11 AP Language and Composition! I am looking forward to an amazing year filled with growth and insights. I am here to help you in this year's college composition course. I am also here to challenge you, though; learning inevitably involves feeling vulnerable, learning to do what you cannot do or do well. Trust me- and yourself- to help you through that confusion to the next level of your learning. 

This is a year-long conversation with yourself about yourself, a conversation that cannot be rushed. Even though you may be feeling overwhelmed, just like the baby in the video, when you start to listen and share your thinking, the world can be seen for the first time over and over again. Let's have a great year. I'm ready and eager to get to know and work with you, as well as to learn from and with you.
